I live in west Gresham and attend Mt. Hood Community College.    It’s about four miles, which seemed like a short enough distance that I should be able to do it by bicycle.  Except, I didn’t own a bike.  It was more concept than reality for me my whole freshman year. 

But when gas prices went so high this spring, I felt it was time.  I had my eyes on a $1200 Trek hybrid. But I had declared bankruptcy in 2005, so I had bad credit.  With no spare cash and no credit cards, I didn’t see how I could afford that bike.  Still, with so much money for gas and my car probably needing repair work soon I felt it was essential for me to have this alternative form of transportation (and exercise).

I am really glad I did that right away.  It was the perfect reason to take out a loan, buying something I really wanted and knew I would use every day. I even use the bike for visiting friends, it’s such a great way to travel around.
